The golden calf trophy is gone. We'll have to wait a year to admire its golden, blank nameplates. Maybe we'll care about it in 20 years when it starts to look old and meaningful.
We could start a pay-pal donation system on the site to buy a quarterback. It wouldn't work though, as was just pointed out to me, because real QB's require OSU coin. Is anyone else watching the Big Ten Network post-game? It's almost like they're sponsored by Hotels.com.
38 points and a fourth straight game without a 100 yard rusher. Total Domination. Fire Bret Bielema.

If I'm not mistaken.......I saw Don Morton roaming the Badger sidelines!!!!
If the Badgers lose another game--and they surely will--the true disgrace of booking Cal Poly High School for the last game of the season will be a hard pill for the Athletic Department to swallow: The game will be even more meaningless than it is now, the stands will be half-full, the seniors will have an awful exit, and those of us who buy season tickets and make contributions will go into winter with a very bad taste in our mouths when it comes to further support of Wisconsin football.
Bring Back Alvarez in 09!!!
Baby steps. Start Small. Send a message. NOBODY GO TO THE CAL-POLY GAME. NOBODY!
This will hit the pocketbooks, and will send a message. What a joke!
REPEAT: NOBODY GO TO THE CAL-POLY GAME! STAY HOME - or HECK, stay in the bars....
Cal Poly High School....holy crap Badgers are going to lose for sure. I thought it was Cal Poly Pee Wee. Wow, no wonder the fans willingly fork over 50 bucks, Cal Poly High School...pretty awesome.
They should set that stupid egotistical statue of Alvarez out on the sideline to replace Bielema. Couldn't do worse.
Wisconsin football will never live down the Va Tech chicken escapade. Sad. Set the tone perfectly for this season. Cowards. More worried about money and record, then playing football. Why shouldn't the players quit on UW, considering the UW quit on them with Cal Poly crap. Go out and make us some money boys, we don't have to do a home and home with the Pee Wees. Sucks.
Scott Tolzein next week!!!!
We're going to have a tough enough time keeping some of the recruits we already have, and an even tougher time getting the 4 stars that are considering us with how this season is playing out.
Firing Bielema will help this how???
To fire him now would set this program back 10 years, your cute little site surely doesn't help matters.
Surely the last commenter jests. The head coach is the lead recruiter. After you fire Bielema, you will replace him with another coach, who will hopefully talk our 2 star guys into staying while going out and getting a few blue chips.
I'll trade you Mike Sherman back for Bielema and some aged cheddar cheese to be named later with an option for cheese curds in '09. I feel your pain Badgers!
Gig 'Em and On Wisconsin!
I just laughed my ass off seeing the final score on ESPN. Now, where is the coaching in this case? There is no way Iowa is as good as Penn State. Hmmmmmmm........looks like our big tough players have just mailed in the season along with the coaches. But let us not get too frustrated, it is a difficult life having to drive mopeds, figure out which groupie we want, how many classes we can drift though and pass and debate on how much we can half ass it in games so we don't get to beat up for the NFL...oh wait, sorry, I forgot Anthony Davis doesn't play for Wisconsin anymore.
As for not going to the Cal Poly game, well, how about no one go to the remaining games conference game at Camp Randall...or don't buy season tickets for next year.
It doesn't matter. They're going to stick with their guy to the bitter end.
There's a better chance we'll see Pat Richter back in Madison as AD...
You guys are pathetic. Quit your _itching and moaning. All of the Big Ten is laughing at you for the way you play, and now for this moronic site. "We want to fire him but not so much that we will want to do anything about it." Nice. Pansies.
Did the guy with the statute ever lose 4 in a row to start Big Ten play? Pretty sure it happened in 1996. You are terible fans. Terrible because you're unrealistic. As Wisconsin fans, you're not owed jack schitt. Yet you act as is you're owed everything. I understand expectations were high and now the season is lost. But fire this guy? You're more than jumping the gun and you look stupid for it. Find anbother way to express your frustration.
I'm no signing up for an ID. But my name is Charles and I am a Hawkeye fan. And people like you exist in Iowa too. And they're just as sad.
Good luck in your next game.
The evidence is in the score board. Bielema just doesn't cut it. What we see on the score board is evidence of not making current performance through play calls, player slotting, and use of current assets. But the real damage is that these underlying assets still have some Barry in the mix. The more we let Bielema continue, the deeper the serious damage. A classic case of promoting to a level they aren't ready for; Barry is an AD who was a great coach but set himself up to fail by so strongly endorsing Bielema that he can back down and take action himself. It's time they both go; or this situation is going to flush more than Kolher...
Let the facts speak for themselves. 0-4 in Big Ten play. Something has to change.
Here is the difference between 2008 and 1996.
Barry had already proven himself, taking one of the five worst programs in Division I to the Rose Bowl in four years.
In terms of "trending", Bielema started out great with Barry's leftovers in 2006 but have become progressively worse. Especially throw out the non-con schedule and it's even worse.
It's easy to get blinded by 24-9. Look at the trends.
This is Larry Coker, Wisconsin style. That just means we're two years from a nasty fight with Florida International on the field for the parallel to become complete.
I agree, "Bielema started out great with Barry's leftovers." Unfortunately, he continued to eat like everyday was Thanksgiving. Can we add a Princeton Club membership to Bielema's new extension? Unfortunately, we have yet to hit the holiday season and I'm afraid things are only going to get worse. The least we can do is try to get Bret in a little better shape so we look better while out team hibernates for the winter.
I wish everyone would stop complaining about Bret and the staff....Its not his fault that he has zero production from a quarterback right now and that we cant get into the endzone...sure you can blame it on recruiting and that they didnt recruit a good qb....but thats not the case, you guys were all perfectly happy fair weather fans when everidge was getting it done and we were in the top 10....he was just fine as a qb then, so dont tell me we didnt recruit a good qb, because you all thought it was just fine, just like bret and the other coaches did....cut the guy some slack, he played 3 rediculously hard games in a row and we came away with none, do you really think they were gonna come out and put up a good game after those 3 loses and effectivly having the season be over...id like to see you get a group of guys together that would be motivated to win out to try and make it to the motor city bowl...BRET is a good coach, Wisconsin is a good program, and it makes me sick to think that we have this many fair weather fans that are willing to start a site like this to bitch and moan.....
and oh yeah, if i hear one more complaint about a ticket price for games...good lord people...nobody took the money out of your wallet and asked you to go to the game, if you didnt wanna spend 50, 60, whatever it is to go to the game, then stay home and watch it on TV
i'm gonna be real. I don't know if firing him is the right answer, but John Clay should be getting like 25 carries a game, at least! for the rest of the season
Not only is Bielema a skunk and a bad coach, he has to be the ugliest coach in college football. He's gained a ton of weight, has that Toucan Sam beak of a nose, and wears that ugly red pullover every game.
Look Wisconsin, you may not be USC (as in Southern Cal or even South Carolina, LOL), but even you cheese brains deserve better than Bielema. You may not win much with whoever you get next unless you can coax Alvarez out of retirement, but dang, whoever you get will at least look less freakish on the sideline than BB. Yeech!
Yes.....leave Camp Randall empty for CalPoly! Shame on Barry, shame on Bret, and Shame on the whole damn UW football program! Wofford.....shame, shame, shame
I'm disgusted.
I hope that we win two Big Ten games this year. I am no fair weather fan. I will be cheering them on every game. However, things have changed. Coaches get paid a lot of money to win. I think their compensation should be more performance based. They should get a big bonus for winning and a smaller base salary. I do believe that the losses are mostly due to coaching. The Tennessee game last year and the Michigan game this year especially. Everything has fallen apart now.
"Its not his fault that he has zero production from a quarterback right now and that we cant get into the endzone"
Yeah right. Who exactly is at fault that we can't get into the endzone? Erin Andrews stops Bret at the goalline. It is also not his fault that he has spent the past three years shoving his egotistical piehole making his team as fat and lazy as his helium blimp big man on campus bloated persona.
"cut the guy some slack"
All the slack has been let out of his slacks and unfortunately they can not be tailored further. He has done irreparable harm to this program. Unfortunately, it is time to buy a new pair. The next stop is the grey buffet elastic drawers while he waits in line for his unemployment check.
"id like to see you get a group of guys together that would be motivated to win out to try and make it to the motor city bowl"
First of all, I would like to state the obvious, you clearly are an idiot. Furthermore, if I was making over 1 million dollars a year, I would throw all the dead weight of our football team into Lake Mendota if that's what it took to win, even if all we were playing for was the Motor City Bowl.
"BRET is a good coach, Wisconsin is a good program, and it makes me sick to think that we have this many fair weather fans that are willing to start a site like this to bitch and moan....."
Yes, Wisconsin is a good program. I have a question for you. If Bret was a good coach, would it be fair for you to start a site like this whether or not you were a sick willing b*&%@? Erin Andrews didn't think so....
everybody is talkin bout no production from the qb position. What about that defense that was supposed to be a huge strength coming into a season. It is said a teams defense is the hesrt and soul to a football team! That defense, and it's perfromance, and lask of playing with emotion, are examples of how this team has quit. It is up to a coaching staff who's team may be struggling to keep it from laying down. Watching this team as the last fewe games have progressed that they have no fire or emotion. Get rid of this guy now. If they don't they will finish 5-7 at best and have to answer all the questions and speculation in the offseason as to why this inexperienced and clueless coach is being allowed to coach a program with a great reputation and tradition
Halftimes of football games are times for a coaching staff to regroup and to make adjustments to counter what the other team is doing. Why then in the last 4 games has Bielema's team come out and been dominated by the opponent? Because he has no idea or the experience to make the necessary adjustments of a bigtime head coach. How can a team who is preseason ranked in the top 15 be the biggest bust in college football? Coaching, coaching, coaching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and Brett take off the sunglasses after dark, you look like an idiot. And if you keep wearing that stupid red jacket for luck? I think it's luck has run out & start dressing like s head coach
How is this loss bielema's fault? iowa has a good run defense and we dont have a good quarterback like always. thats not his fault.
Bring Back Alvarez in 09!!!
Are you sure about that? cause Barry lost to Iowa 4 years in his last 4 seasons. he cant beat iowa
hawkeye fan said...You guys are pathetic. Quit your bitching and moaning.
You just want us to keep this bad excuse for a coach around so that you can count on at least 1 win in a season.
Newsflash there Hot Rod. Iowa lost to BB his first two years as head coach.
HawkFan
Barry Alvarez lost to iowa in 02, 03, 04 and 05. why would it of been any different if he was the coach yesterday? he cant beat iowa
Bielema should be fired for not just his coaching in the Iowa game. It started in the 2nd half of the Michigan game where his team came out for the 2nd half and played not to lose, and lost. They dominated Michigan the 1st half and layed an egg in 2nd half. THAT'S COACHING OR LACK OF IT. Ohio state? They give up a TD to the buckeye on there 1st drive and then hold them the entire game. Then on the last drive Ohio St. drives the entire field where on the last play of the drive before TD all 4 of our inebackers run into eachother, taking themselve out of the play. Penn State? We came out appearing ready to play. Then at the end of the 1st half, with a minute and a half to play, we had the ball deep in out own territory. Why did we do? Instead of going into half down 10 with the monentum on our side, "the coach" decides to get fancy and throw. Result: WE FUMBLE, Penn State scores, game over, the dominate us the 2nd half because the team had no coaching at half. Iowa, who cares what happened? Anybody who knows football could have told you that Bucky would get killed in that game. The team is/was dead, no heartbeat. And the coach isn't qualified or able to revive them. A good coach wouldn't let his team giveup and lay down in the 2nd half of ALL of there last four games. Not once have they shown they have a pulse in the 2nd half of those games. Hey dummies, that is soley coaching by not preparing your team to emotional pick themselves and play with intensity and fire at the very least. Clemson fired Bouden last week for the very reason Bielema hasn't cut it. These guys make a couple million a year. In any other profession if you don't perform your done, and quickly. Stop the bleeding now, wisconsin should cut there losses before this spirals out of control and we return to the 80's again.
Makes sense to me. Coach has taking a team almost identical to last years 9-4 team and turned into a 4-8 team (one less game due to no bowl game this year). And don't tell me it is all the quarterback. We can't even run this year, like last year. And last year we made an occasional tackle too. Don't see any of that either. Got to put the blame on the coach.
UW-Whitewater would most likely beat the Badgers! Maybe we could Ten and play with Whitewater against the likes of La Crosse, Stout, Platteville, Eau Claire, St.Point, Oshkosh, and Indiana. Maybe against them we could go .500.
Adversity doesn't build character, it defines character. Wisconsin has not had any of that in all of their Big10 games. Gotta put that on the coaching staff. Obvious the team is not laying it all on the line for the coaches. Get used to the lossing if Bielema stays on has head coach of Wisconsin
Just a matter of time before a few Badgers get arrested for fighting on state st. Makes sense since they aren't putting up a once a fight in any of the last four games. The players cashed it in so we should cash in the coaching staff
Why don't we fire Bielema and hire a high profile coach? Isn't it about time we made some noise? Every school around the country tries to hire the best coaches around. What do we do....hire people that no one has heard of. I mean even Minnesota and Illinois have hired high profile coaches. Why not hire Lane Kiffen? Or someone of his stature. It isn't like we don't shell out big bucks anyways for people like Bielema. Let's pay a little more and see what happens then.
You guys that set up this website are pretty sick, do you really understand football or just care about winning!!!! Nobody can be winners all the time and trying to turn people against bret and the badgers are just making things worse. If you are a true badger fan you love them good or bad. We are going thru a tough time now so everyone needs to stand up and be even more supportive and we will come out of it!! Did everyone want to fire barry when he had this bad of a record??? You can't give up on someone so easy, everyone deserves a chance, I am sure everyone out there has made some kind of mistakes in there life and what bret is going thru is not a mistake it is just a young team that needs to come together and play the way the coach wants them to.
Just a little reply to everyone is telling us to stop our bitching...This situation is very similar to what took place at Indiana with their basketball program about 5 years ago. Mike Davis took over for Bobby Knight and took the team to the final four and everyone thought he was the next great coach in college basketball. But once all of knight's recruits left and he had to recruit and create a system he couldn't handle it. Now he is coaching at UAB.
Bielema did fine with Barry's players in Barry's system but once those guys left and he had to develop his own team he has failed. People need to stop looking at this guys decent overall record and look at the product he has put on the field lately.
on wisconsin, on wisconsin, bounce right off that line
run the ball 3 times a series, punt on fourth and nine
on wisconsin, on wisconsin, every week's the same
drink, fellas, drink drink drink, forget this game
ah, it's refreshing to return to our cellar-of-the-big-ten past.
thanks bret for ruining barry's program.
to the person who said, "do you guys really understand football, or just care about winning!!!" You may be the worlds biggest idiot!!!! In football winning isn't everything, it's the only thing. Quote by VInce Lombardi. So obviously your the one who doesn't understand football. ANd you comment on this being a young team, again you are an idiot. Half the starters at the beginning of the seasons are seniors. This is an experienced team thats why they were preseason ranked so high. Fire Beliema because he should a never had been named head coach in the 1st place due to lack of experience. In a little over a year he has destroyed the program and erased years of growth from a loser to a winner to back to a loser again. Football is all about winning, nothing else you idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's amazing that Bielema had received so much credit for his first 2 years as head coach. Apparently no one realizes that he was and STILL IS coaching Alvarez's players.
Bielema should spend less time living the rockstar lifestyle, and actually take his job seriously. Fire Bret Bielema and send him to AA class!!
I dunno if hiring Lane Kiffin is an upgrade from Bielema.
I gave a damn for a minute about this coach and football team, then I realized that it doesn't matter what I think or say because they (coaches, AD etc) are going to whatever they think is correct.
Face it, we can bitch, people can bitch at people who enjoy this place to rant about the ever expanding girth of Bielema's less than impressive coaching job, and it wont matter at all. He still has a contract and football players who can't perform. Nothing can be done about it.
Its typhoon season and there's some good surf on the horizon and that's one thing Brett Bielema and the mediocre Badgers can't screw up.
And best of all, the Red Sox just lost in the ALCS. Its a great day!
bret bielema = larry coker
How a head coach, who was a defensive coordinator, can have a defense that doesn't tackle and gives up one big play after another is baffling. And the defense has been poor ever since he has been head coach, the offense was just able to cover them before. Lack of tackling reflects coaching, not the quarterback. Benching Evridge was a joke, wrong and Bielema just looking for a scapegoat. The offensive play calling is obvious...run, run, pass. Things will not get better with Bielema, this is not just a "down year." He needs to unzip that stupid pullover that makes him look like an idiot, teach some fundamental skills or move on.
Looks like Bielema has all his staff working hard to stuff the ballot box in his favor. Early Sunday when there were about 300 votes cast the voting was 67% in favor of firing Bielema. Now it's down to only 61%.
Hey, Bielema, you should have your coaches working with the players instead of trying to sway the voting. And don't even think about hiring ACORN to help you in the polls.
I don't think we are going to see "half-full" stands this season. Badger fans are more loyal than that. To suggest that Bret Bielema should be fired just goes to show how little you people understand about football and in particular Wisconsin football.
Conventional wisdom says it's crazy to fire a coach with a 24-9 record...but records can be deceiving. With the exception of the bowl game against Arkansas, those wins came against inferior opponents and an injury-riddled Michigan team. What's more telling is that Bielema has completely lost control over his team. A good coach knows how to motivate his players and keep them focused. A good coach can right the ship, or at least keep it from sinking completely. Under Bielema's watch, our team has fallen apart on all levels and in all phases of the game. When coaches and players talk about getting back to fundamentals at the halfway point of the season, there is something seriously wrong. When the team somehow manages to get worse each week, despite the coaching staff’s best attempts to stop the bleeding, then it’s time for a change. The bottom line is that, Wisconsin doesn't have a long-standing tradition of winning. We act like we don’t get any respect as a program, but you have to earn respect with national championships. Wisconsin has only been a winning program for the last 15 years, so it doesn't have the luxery of a Michigan, Nebraska, Alabama, etc, who can endure a few bad head coaches and still fall back on their tradition. There’s nothing to say that we won’t fall back into another 30 years of mediocrity. We need to preserve the fragile house that Barry built (and ironically the one that he's helped to destroy as AD). That's why we've got to fire Bret Bielema and bring in a proven winner. The rest will take care of itself.
I think it's very easy to say fire Bret because of this year. I'm not sure if I am totally supportive of that, but I'm getting close. I'm frustrated because I am a season ticket holder and we were ranked as high at 8 or 9 because of our past history and all the return players that we have. Granted our QB situation has gotten out of control, but when you have no running game either, you have to throw more and obviously that is not helping this year either. Our D is pathetic, our kicking game is more like a high school squad and our coaching staff is so predictable all teams in the Big 10 know how to defend us because we never try anything new. Running the ball has always been WI's game, but let's try and recruit a decent qb also and then keep the running game and maybe we will be a complete game again. I would love to see WI ranked in the top 2, but we will NEVER be a legit team when we schedule so many pathetic NC games.....Cal Polly, come on!!! If we go 5-7 this year, which I truely believe we will, then I say our coaching staff needs to be looked at. I'll continue to cheer the team on each week and pray for a victory, but man, this year has not been fun. I just don't think Bret has what it takes to be a head coach at WI
It's too early to fire the guy but honestly, I've got major doubts about him. The Larry Coker analogy sure seems to fit right now.
I bet you Pete Carroll would gladly accept a challenge to come to Madison to play the Badgers.
I always wondered why the Big Ten never bothered to set up a football challenge similar to the basketball Big Ten-ACC Challenge. I'm sure since the SEC thinks they are the greatest thing since sliced bread that they would love the chance to show the world how much more awesome they are than the Big Ten.
As for Wisconsin scheudling teams like Toledo, Bowling Green, Cal Poly, Akron etc, why don't they schedule real teams like Notre Dame, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska...I always wondered why Barry never managed to get NU to play UW while he was there.
Well, I do know why, because the boosters want to see a 55-0 blowout to boost thier egos.
So a lot of peoplewant BB fired....that is fine with me, but who does everyone want to become the coach? My wish list would include: Butch Davis, Lane Kiffin, Steve Sarkisian, Bronco Mendenhall, Skip Holtz, just to name a few. The fact remains though that BB WON'T BE GONE!!
"Every school around the country tries to hire the best coaches around. What do we do....hire people that no one has heard of. I mean even Minnesota and Illinois have hired high profile coaches."
Tim Brewster (Minnesota) is NOT a high-profile coach. He has never held a head coaching positioning (except high school).
This team could seriously lose out, and I mean lose out. Even to the Cal Poly-Wanna Cracker Parrots.
Right now, we've regressed to the John Jardine era. Not too much longer until we revisit the likes of John Coatta and Don Moron.
No, that last one isn't a typo.
Love the comments on the stinking windbreaker zipped up. BB had that stupid thing on in Fresno in 95 degree heat and will wear it when its freezing. Wonder if it gets washed. Must be lucky...oh guess not when your players screw up and coaches blame them for not understanding that your out really means your in the game.
At least change the stinking wardrobe
"You guys that set up this website are pretty sick, do you really understand football or just care about winning!!!! ...If you are a true badger fan you love them good or bad. "
The person who said this exactly typifies what's wrong with our program - fans that accept, or even applaud, mediocrity.
What's the point of "understanding football" if you don't "care about winning"? Isn't that the ONLY goal of fielding a team? To WIN?
If we want our team to get to that "next level," then we, the fans, must think at the next level and raise our expectations to the next level.
It's about damned time we hold people more accountable. If we keep saying, "there, there, you did your best..." then, I'm sorry to say, Wisconsin will forever be a mediocre program.
I don't mean this critically, but, get to the next level? Ha. The next level is teams that draw 80,000 to Spring games. Let's just shoot for solid, and contending for a Big Ten Title occasionally. Let's just shoot for some nice non-conference games. Alvarez set the standard, let's shoot for that level. That level is the happy place somewhere between Oklahoma, Georgia, LSU, USC, OSU and where Bielema is taking this team, Indiana, Baylor.
I loved that comment about getting Bielema a membership at the Princeton Club. Classic. To be honest, Barry looked pretty dopey in his pull over he wore at Camp Randall.
I was shocked to see Bret coaching this weekend. It was proven today we have the talent but lack coaching. He had better be gone at end of season or I see a real downturn in the football program if he remains as head coah
Should Bret Bielema be fired... no.
Are there some concerns? Surely, he is a young head coach, who benefited like Jim Zalasky at Iowa in wrestling and Larry Coker at Miami in football.
Recruiting hasn't been a huge strength the past two years under Bielema as some fans around the Big Ten may think.
Depth is the number one problem. Further, the importance of QB, line play on both sides and special teams is always a big part of success in the Big Ten.
PSU, OSU, Michigan and Iowa have all seen that.
Just having 4 deep at RB doesn't make up for the 11 on 11 football.
peace
YES I AGREE WITH THE OTHER BADGERS FANS THAT BB SHOULD BR FIRED AFTER I WATCHED THE MSU VS. BADGERS GAME.
I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HIS CALLS.
