Off the schnide

Got back from the game. We finally see senior level play from our defense. Great work and a strong finish from everybody. That's what it would have been great to see for the past 4 weeks, but late is better than never. I hope this marks the change that we've been waiting for. It was not by any means a return to a dominant offensive performance and special teams was better but not great. It's not fair to expect everything to be perfect. This was a win that required strong play across 4 quarters, and for us to accomplish that is fantastic and hopefully a sign of things to come.
Finally, Michigan is the most hated Big Ten team, and nobody cares about Michigan State. Sounds about right.

This season is still a complete disaster and Bielema still needs to be fired 1-4 in the big ten still sucks.

lol wisconsin beats illinois and some one still says fire bielema. some of you wisconsin fans are acting like michigan fans.

you all are dumb. bret doing great things for this program. so the lack of a quarterback is brets fault? evridge was a transfer from kansas st, sherer wasnt a product of bielema's recruiting? we havent yet seen most of bielemas recruiting, even on this young team. also, the senior play on defense? sure shaughnessy played well and so did levy, as well as langford getting a pick. but the other 2 picks were by maragos and brinkley, who arent seniors, jay valai played well, not a senior, as well as jaevery mcfadden and o'brien schofield. get a clue.

and what about those passes to beckum that were right to him that he dropped? thats bielema's fault to? im so tired of people blaming bielema for every thing

bottom line, they are sloppy and nothing is in rhythmn. That is COACHING! Barry's teams would not be rated very well and have some losses but they arrived for the big games. i have no confidence in Bret that his teams can be ready for big games. Proof of a 1-4 Big Ten record!

He needs to be replaced. Times have changed for WI football. i was there when they wouldn't let you go half way up the student section because no one attended!

I didnt see much rhythm from Barry in 2001 when Wisconsin went 5-7

Yeah, well the offensive line wasn't getting a push and they were recruited by Bielema. Does it matter? He's not going to get fired. This website is a forum for people to complain about the the rapidly expanding man known as Brett Bielema and his less than stellar track record as of late.

We beat Illinois lead by a coach who couldn't win with the ridiculous amount of talent at Florida and can easily stumble into a 7-8 wins per season with the Chicagoland talent he recruits at Illinois.

And lastly, talent means nothing unless the players are either mature enough to handle the game at the college level, if the coaches prepare them sufficiently...while coaches should never be called "genius" they are responsible for the basics of football...blocking, proper tackling, correct footwork, keeping your outside arm free on defense, staying in your lanes on special teams etc, etc, etc, etc....

We all know he's not going to get fired, but it doesn't mean that we have no right to complain about the obvious deficiencies with the team and the rumored character flaws of a coach who needs to be setting an example to his players. One of my former profs at UW uses this quote in his emails and I think it's fitting for all points of view on this blog: "If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear"-George Orwell.

So when is the next fire Bret poll??

Will we wait until after they lose at Mich State?

Anonymous said...

Ok.... so can we all agree? At the very least, get rid of CHRYST??

Michigan State has a good offense but they struggle on defense, thats why wisconsin has a chance to beat msu but they gotta be able to maintain javon ringer

Bret Bielema deserves the support of Badger fans until, and unless, the Badgers' play and enthusiasm fails to meet fans' expectations over a "reasonable" period of time. Four games is not a reasonable period. I speak from the perspective of one who has followed Badger FB since 1960.

look time has nothing to do with it. its about expectations and the last two years expectations where high and bielma has failed miserably to meet the expectations. remember last year we where supposed to WIN the big ten and Bielma blew it. This year we where picked for secound with only Ohio State being the team to beat and as we know now Ohio State was beatable but we didn't do it. we also lost to a terrible towa and michighan team and we failed to compete with penn state AT HOME. ok bielma won this week after the season has been ruined whoopty doo

Badger fans, stop being RETARDS. BB is horrid, the following things ARE his fault, and if you can't see that this team is one of the most poorly coached in the nation then you just don't know football.

Special teams
Big Returns because of the wrong personal on KO coverage
Illegal formation on punt? The team can't line up correctly?
Couldn't field a squib kick
Bad snaps from the long snapper

Offense
Can't convert 3rd and 1, keep getting the wrong calls (stretch plays)
Coaching staff still hasn't figured out how to effectively use all the talent at RB
Not letting Sherer get comfortable right away and keep calling 15 yard outs in the face of heavy blitzing

Defense
Can't get off the field on 3rd and long
Confusion in coverage/coverage breakdown

Today showed that talent can win games, but the coaching staff is still a mess.

how is iowa terrible? 5-3 isnt a bad record and they have one of the best defense's in the nation and are predicted to be in a new years day bowl.

I think before anyone makes a comment, they should at least be able to spell.

I love how we schedule cupcakes and "mid-major" football teams to help boost alumni/booster egos when the Badgers plummel some unknown team:

2009: Wofford, Northern Illinois. No offense to NIU, but I'm sure that the Badgers could have scheduled other quality opponents. Wofford? I don't think that school has been relevant in athletics since World War II, if at all. They play in the same conference as Appalachian State. You cannot be serious.

Despite Colt Brennan and Coach Jones, Hawaii is only an excuse for pasty white people from the midwest to go to a tropical locale. I can already hear the 'haole' sneers from the locals. Isn't December 5 pretty close to finals?

2010: UNLV. They beat the Badgers at Camp Randall, but if they are going west, how about play the premier team on the West Coast, USC? Two TBA that I am pretty sure will be two cupcakes.

2011: Against NIU at Soldier Field. So it will be virtually an "away" home game for the Badgers. Chalk one up for competition. I'm sure Notre Dame would accept that little challenge. One TBA that will be a cupcake. I'm sure they will schedule an FCS team or one of the lesser FBS teams.

This is why I laugh when anyone talks about Wisconsin possibly challenging for the national title.

saturday was, at best, a very average performance against a very average team that didn't have a particularly good day. there is little to be excited about.

if we are committed to developing a national-level football program, we should look at performances like saturday as something of a failure. i sincerely doubt that florida, usc, osu, texas or other programs of that caliber would look at a 1-4 conference record, with the only victory having been over a middle-of-the-road team having a bad day, as anything but an embarrassment.

Anonymous said...

12 knots to nowhere - its interesting how u bash the non conference schedule but leave out the fresno state game who was ranked when wisconsin beat them this year and probaly will be ranked next year. in 2010 you left out that wisconsin plays arizona state who just shared the pac 10 title with usc last year. and 2011 you left out oregon state who is also in the pac 10. and beat usc this year.

Anonymous said...

one more thing about fresno state. in the last three years 3 big 12 teams have backed out from playing them. kansas state, texas tech and oklahoma state. but you consider fresno state a cupcake? they can beat bcs conference teams and bcs conference teams are scared to play them

anthony,

i dont know if you have ever read about this anywhere, but bielema loves special teams. he tries to match each teams strengths, and expose their weaknesses.

i dont know who you want to see on KO? its the most violent play in football and players get hurt on at least 1 KO per game.

and bielema doesnt have any control over people lining up in the game, recovering ONSIDE kicks, or snapping the ball?

offensively, would you rather us pass on 3-1? sherer should be comfortable because hes a college qb 4 years in the system. he does those routes in practice 3 days a week. also, bielema has no impact on any plays, chryst calls them all.

defensively, bielema doesnt call plays either. dave doeren does, and he is a defensive mastermind. the db's are young and inexperienced minus allen langford. but think about the corners if jack ikegwuonu hadnt gone pro and aaron henry wasnt hurt? im pretty sure bielema didnt have a choice about either of those. there was no way ikegwuonu was staying with his robbery charges looming...

Looks like those of us that feel it's okay to call out this coach because if his inadequacies have riled up the "Blood Clots"! As much as I'd like to see it, the Badgers will never compete for, much less win, a national championship scheduling bums like Wofford. What a joke.

Bret Bielema is in charge of special teams, and david gilreath set a school record last year for most kickoff/return yards in a season.

I can't believe that I am actually going to post to such an unbelievable website, but Coach Bielema needs some support on this site. You guys who are calling for Coach Bielema to be fired obviously don't really know much about football, especially in the Big Ten, at all. I was one of the two linebackers Coach Bielema coached when he was promoted to Full Time from being a GA back in 1996 at Iowa. I started 3 years for Bret, and I can tell you FROM EXPERIENCE that Bret Bielema is one of the best coaches I have ever had the privilege of playing for. Not only was he extremely knowledgable from an x's and o's perspective, but he his relationships with the players was second to none.

How can you fans, with good concious, ever call for the firing of a coach who won 17 out of the first 18 games he coached at Wisconsin? Do you really feel like Wisconsin should never lose a game? Most of you probably have never played in a league as physical and as demanding as the Big Ten. A few key injuries, or rebuilding in important positions could cost you a few games alone, no matter how many other great returners you have.

I just think that if you knew Bret Bielema and what he stood for and how his players, both past and present respect him, an ignorant site like this would not exist. He works day in and day out to change the lives and mold the lives of young men, he does a great job of it to, speaking from experience. Losing is part of life, I doubt anyone on this board has won at every challenge that they attempted. Football teaches you how to win with class and also how to lose with class, it seems that the majority of people on this board have forgotten this simple fact.

You guys should thank your lucky stars to have Coach B as your coach. He is instilling values and work ethic in those guys that will help them to ultimately be successful in life, which is what college is all about.

As long as Evridge isnt playing wisconsin will be fine

Anonymous said...

Ok Matt you wouldn't be interested in wisconsin keeping bielema to keep the wisconsin program down wouldn't you. I mean common lets face we Iowa sucks your best coach haden fry never won the big one. So what do you idiots know about running a good football program.Hayden never won the rose bowl all he accomplished at Iowa is painting the locker room pink. If you think Bielema is a good coach mr hughes from Iowa then you losers can have him.

hey i just love all these iowa fans coming in on this site trying to convince us to support this incompotent idiot. Of coarse they want us to keep Bielema just like i would have liked it if Ohio State would have kept John Cooper.

Everyone keeps talking about how Fresno State was...key word is "was"...ranked. After losing to Wisconsin, they have yet to sniff the top 25, much like the Badgers.

My comments about cupcakes did not include Oregon State and Arizona State. I commented on scheduling such power houses such as UNLV, Northern Illinois and the unstoppable force of Wofford (actually, a really good FCS team in the SOCON...but its not as if we are playing LSU, the only school to have two BCS titles).

Not to throw more mud in Bielema's eye, but I would probably have a whole weekend's worth of yuks if the Badgers did manage to lose to Wofford. Part of me wants to see a repeat of Appalachian State '07 just so these football factories will stop being so arrogant thinking they can beat up on smaller schools without consequence.

Anonymous said...

Fresno state is 5-2 and will probaly end the season ranked and beat a good team in their bowl game like usual. and dont forget 2005 they almost beat usc and usc was in the national championship that year. fsu is no cupcake

12 Knots to Nowhere said...

That's nice about Fresno State. I guess we all forgot that after losing that epic game against USC, Fresno State managed to drop their next four games. I never stated Fresno State was a cupcake.

Bielema's a FIB from Prophetstown. Illinois is the most racist state University in the Nation. The evil seat of Champaign, Urban II the evil Pope who started the Crusades! How do these remnants of French Royalist Papists mock Native Americans! Buckingham Underworld Badger beat those FIBS, now it's time to get Sparty Spartan!

BB needs to go...coaching staff gets penalized 20 yards back to back? are you kidding me? Don't look at record look at trend all downhill - and yes that is asking for a higher standard but that's what we should want for Badger Football. How's that Hankwitz decision working out for you Bret??? Anyone want to go to Detroit in Dec - W-L 6-6.

Anonymous said...

This has been one of the worst coaches seasons I have ever seen. BB's decisions have been extremely poor and this week versus Michigan St. was no different. Up by two points with almost two minutes to go and you don't even take a shot at getting a first down. Way to shut it down and be conservative and lose the game again. You get a quarterback that has been throwing the ball well and you take the chance away from him an your whole team to win the game! Good timeout to let them setup for the field goal as well. Has anyone notice that icing kickers really doesn't work. Wake up, why don't we just run the veer option offense if your going to be that afraid to throw the ball. Do you think Pere Carrol or Urban Meyer would have run a draw and crossed their fingers hoping to escape with a win.

Where are all my fellow "fire Bielema" fans? So the Badgers go 4-0 to four shitty teams and now he's a good coach? Maybe there are a lot of Badger fans out there that are only happy to see wins, but I'm not one of them. You only get better by playing teams better than you.
Bielema's special teams just got hammered twice in less than five minutes: once by a 96 yard kick off return for a touchdown, followed by his return guy stepping out of the endzone and THEN deciding to down it. He's the kind of guy that plays to win by three or not to lose too badly, and it's straight up rooster shit. Take Paul Bunyan's axe and cut him.
