Halftime

The Badgers are winning this game. The Seminoles have the lead, but the Badgers are playing well on both sides of the ball. Ponder is going to be leaving the field on a stretcher if he keeps taking hits. PJ Hill is running like a man possessed; unfortunately the possessing spirit also lacks breakaway speed. Regardless, he is punishing the FSU defense and this bodes well for the second half.
-Everything in italics I wrote before FSU's final drive. Uh oh, I'm the bad luck guy.

I question why the TD fumble recovery was not reviewed. However, I have no idea what the replay rules are in this game and it seemed as though the booth team does not know either. Florida St. is the home team, so they should be using ACC replay rules, but this is a Bowl game so the officials may be following the Champs Sports Rules of Football. The play meets the general NCAA criteria for when replay should be utilized. Should Bret have challenged the play? My answer is a tentative probably, but maybe he saw the play clearly and it was a lateral without question.

The sudden appearance of Billy Mays yelling at me almost resulted in the remote being firmly lodged in the screen. I checked the all-powerful internet; he is neither a Florida State alumni nor an Orlando native. ESPN giving the allegedly "legendary" pitchman screen time is indefensible.

These lower tier bowls are more circus act than football game. For this reason, I refuse to give this game too much significance, but Bret can prove something to all Badger fans in the second half.

Lousy clock management, lousy play calling....it is shame to be down by 11 when our D has finally shown up.

Bret takes timeouts into the lockeroom at half whilst FSU takes one early in the 2nd. half to effectively slow down the smash mouth Badger start to the half. Who has a plan and who is clueless????

Randy said...

17 play drive, the D we've come to love is back.

Third and 19, we give em 20. No pressure the only sack is when the qb falls over himself.

Rubentown Badger said...

This is going to get as ugly as Bret. Now the Badgers have to pass, unless Bret is going to run up the white flag and keep it on the ground to try and prevent FSU from running up the score. If they go to the pass to try and get back in the game how many of Sherer's passes are going to be intercepted for FSU scores?

I'm predicting 28 - 6 at the end of the 3rd. Thank god Bobby Bowden has decided to take mercy on Bret and not totally air it out.

Fabulous special teams play...roughing the kicker.

Who is the special teams coach anyway?

Anonymous said...

This is the worst officiated game I have ever seen.

Final prediction - 63-6 ?

Let me guess ............ now don't help me ......... could it be Bret? Who else could be coaching a unit with a lack of dicipline.

How much can Barry raise ticket prices for the product we are watching today?

Anonymous said...

poor, poor decision making/play calling; Brett, you do not meet the criteria for someone who can lead the Badgers. Finds another job.

The Badgers poor execution combined with the worst officiating I have witnessed in years has resulted in a blow-out. No one watching this game can be enjoying this. Sherer can't do anything right and Bret has called some of the lousiest plays. He knows how to perfectly stall out a drive that had been smoothly sailing.

FIRE BRET.

If today's pathetic attendance draw is any indication of the future draws at Camp Randall... A LOT!!!

Barry take back control now, please don't make us suffer through the pathetic years of old.

At least Brett took off the damn windbreaker and sunglasses so we can see how confused he looks out there!

Anonymous said...

we won't be able to recruit anybody after this

Rubentown Badger said...

Your are making the assumption that Bret could recruit before this. WRONG!!!!!!!!!! Proof ... Sherer as our quarterback

Bret had a chance to save face and instead embarrassed himself, his program and our state. What a joke. Unacceptable. We all know, though, that Barry won't fire Bret. *sigh*

noname said...

Serious, do we have any chance of recruiting in the years to come. How the heck can Barry let this happen any longer. Please get rid of this coaching staff now so we dont have the seasons of the past. If not, we will probably start to see the stands empty.

when i came to this school, rose bowls were in recent memory, barry was coach, we barely missed a bcs game and we beat a good auburn team in the capital one bowl. now look at us. each year has been more terrible than the previous one. this is so embarrassing and as a graduating senior, i feel like my one chance at a big time college sports experience is ruined. this is 100% because of bret bielema and if barry has any heart whatsoever he will terminate bielema and take back the team, otherwise, other students will have to suffer the same dismal fate as me. but no matter what, ON WISCONSIN

This is embarrasing, there is terrible tackling, bad play calling, and it looks like half the players have no clue what they are doing. It was ridiculous when florida state got a first down on 3rd and 19. Something needs to change this offseason.

Hasn't Barry realized the program he created is going down the tubes. Seriously the worst bowl game ever played by our program.

Pete said...

never have i seen a more poorly coached badger team and after this there will be no good recruits for next year and it looks like it will be as bad as this year if there is not a big change made.

Let us reflect back on the season. Letting a 2 and terrible Michigan team come back in the 2nd half to beat us. Blown out by both Iowa and Penn State and now FSU. BB personally giving the game away to Michigan State, a defense with out a clue during the OSU winning drive, then that great win in overtime against Cal Poly. Then this toilet bowl performance!

Barry is taking a page out of GWB's book, if YOU think it is right (BB as your head coach) it must be right even if all the data points in the other direction.

I've lost all respect for King Barry and cannot wait for both he and Bret to get out of town!

Bret is worse than Don Morton in his best years. He could NOT coach his way out of a wet paper bag!

42-13! How dare we attack Bret Bielema! He is one of the best and brightest minds in the game while Bobby Bowden is old, backwards, out of touch with the game and should have retired years ago!

I said over 7 weeks ago that this guy has got to go.With 17 returning starters,to have all the mistakes and penalties is a joke.A COACHING JOKE!Replace him now before we are as embarrassed as I was tonight at the Champs bowl.Im a small doner but if all us small doners stop giving it will at least be a mequito bite.Have to go now ,to pissed off.---Big Badger Fan in Florida

You got to fire Bret Bielema Barry. You might really like the guy, but this is not the job for him. And the officiating this year has been very biased. Nothing in favor of the Badgers, so we really can't blame that on Bret, but there's a lot we can blame on him. We can't even recruit, and get a decent QB, because we need to start throwing the ball with out the chance of it getting intercepted. And now how are we going to recruit a decent QB.
I was so embarased that I had to leave.
So Barry, do what you must, and fire BB. Friend or no friend. This is a business, not just a fun game you played as a kid.

42-13: how dare we attack Bret Bielema? Come on pal; most of those wins came with Barry's players! Bret couldn't coach eleven Iowa hogs into an open field!

Brian S. said...

Let see; 2006 he was 21-1, 2007 he 9-4, 2008 he was 7-6, and 12 Knots to Nowhere said... he is one of the best and brightest minds in the game!! OMG!!! What will the team be like when his own recruiting class takes over. FIRE HIM NOW!!!!! Oh and by the way Cal Poly lost to Weber State (who lost to Montana, yes Montana) and Michigan did NOT go to a bowl!

Anonymous said...

A fitting end to a pathetic season. Is there any doubt now that Bielema needs to go?

Anonymous said...

im not sure how this loss is bielema's fault. sherer played terrible, threw a lateral that fsu ran back for a TD. then wisconsin fumbled 3 times in florida states territory. that isnt bielema's fault it was the whole teams fault. quit being like packer fans and stop blaming the coach every time you lose

Anonymous said...

and alvarez didnt do shit after his last rose bowl. thats why he retired he knew the fire was out for him

Paul said...

This loss is Not bielema's fault?? What the?
If Sherer played terrible get his ass out of there!! And his lateral throw that FSU ran back for a TD was ONE play! Oh, and who called that play; the coaching staff!! Special teams was a freakin nightmare this season; and who is the special teams coach??

I feel truly sorry for you Badger fans. You must be embarrassed sending that coaching staff down here! I hope for all of the UW fans that the University searches for a new coach; soon! I watched a Wisconsin-Whitewater team play Mount Union and I think they could play a good game against the Badgers. Good Luck next year!

Boy am I glad I moved to Arizona. Nobody knows that I am (was) a Badger fan! How much does Bret B. make per year?

Brian S. said...

"The contract's pay adjustment reflects Bret's sound and strong leadership of our football program". "He's been recognized nationally for his remarkable first-year (yeah that's right FIRST year) achievements (even though the players were from the Barry A. show). The package provides him compensation more in line with the market forces at work in college football", says Chancellor John D. Wiley in 2007.

"Bret had a terrific first season, one that made us the envy of many universities nationally." "He did it through hard work, by setting high standards on the field and in the classroom and by refusing to compromise on his values," states Barry Alvarez in 2007.

"We recognize his commitment to Wisconsin," Dickey says. "Bret has represented the university selflessly in his many interactions with the public and has kept the Badgers in the forefront of college football," states Walter Dickey in 2007.

I did not make this up.
Who writes this shit for these guys?

Who writes this shit for them?

if you want bielema fired just remember one thing. there is no guarantee a new choach would be any better. and dont forget barry alvarez didnt do much after his last rose bowl besides beating Auburn. if you want him fired thats fine but just remember there is no guarantee things will be better

Mike R. said...

I believe Auburn's coach resigned this year and he had an 85-40 record. Badger fans should not accept such awful coaching!

Auburn was good, but thats really all avlarez did in his last years
