Stunning. I never would have predicted this reaction out of the Athletic Department. If this extension was meant to inspire confidence, it has failed. No questions about the recommendations? Let's just say I am mildly suspicious that when the conversation turned to football, Barry's words sounded more like orders than recommendations. With this act, the AD has proven that anything is possible. Maybe, in private, Bret is a hybrid of the genius of Belichick and the leadership of Lombardi. Regardless, it is now unquestionable that Bret will have to be fired as waiting for his contract to end is infeasible. Grab the pitchforks and light the torches, we are going to have to do this the old fashioned way.

This is the University's press release for the Feb. 9, 2007 extension. At this point, Bret's contract runs through Jan. 31, 2012. Fans often forget that an additional year was added, and I am guilty of making the mistake in an earlier post. Today's press release states that a one-year extension was given, thereby extending the contract to Jan. 31, 2014. The MSJ echoes this date in its report. What happened to 2013? Now I am both disappointed and confused. At least they did it on a Friday instead of heartlessly releasing this on a Monday.

wow, its always exciting going to badger games and sitting in the student section for about the first 15 minutes, and then you realize that your team just stops playing football after about the 4-5 minute mark in the second quarter, unless its the beastly akron or northern illinois, and you just say fuck my life. I am disappointed in the Athletic Dept Board. The paper said there were no questions on the recommendations. This is stupid when the trend line is in front of your face. This Board is no less sycophantic than the boards of those financial companies now being bailed out with our money. At least there is no levy on my money to support this nonsensical betrayal by the athletic board.
Tickets are one tax that is optional, people need to stop thinking of the athletic department as a charity, especially when BB is getting raises/extensions and Barry is paid top-5 $ for the 35th best athletic dept in the country.

The reason why it's important to fire Bielema is because his players lack the fundamentals. They tackle poorly, block poorly, catch poorly. That speaks to me about the coaching more than the players. I'm sure those guys are good athletes, but they've been allowed to be lazy, to keep doing things their way, and the fundamentals are missing.
I wish I had a dollar for every attempted arm tackle, bump tackle, tackle above the waist, etc. The Badgers look like good high school players, but not like disciplined college-level players.
Also, losing games we should have won is on the coaches. And it happens every year! The players are over-confident, the players don't give 100%. That's on the coaches, because the coaches don't learn from their mistakes. So Wisconsin doesn't have a prayer of ever making it beyond the Rose Bowl. That's the best they can do and they'll never be a nationally competitive team. Sorry.
