Why is it that every fan base for any college or professional team must be described as: X nation? I grew up in the Chicagoland area and I never once heard the fan base for the White Sox, Bulls, Bears or Blackhawks (all 10 or so of us in the 1990s) referred to as a nation.<BR/><BR/>Stop calling the fan base for the UW Badgers a "nation." <BR/><BR/>There is no reason why there should not be a dissenting voice against the coach of the football team. All that "Go Blue", "Hail To The Victors" (we all know the alternate lyrics!), and their overall smugness. Bo pissed my off as well, even after he left Michigan, when he went to the Detroit Tigers and fired Ernie Harwell, just one of the greatest baseball play-by-play annouincers of all time. Gary Moeller could have given Bret the Town Drunk a run for his money at over-indulging, and it was always fun watching Lloyd Carr's pained expression when....oh hell, all the time.<BR/>On another note, more has to be said about the Badgers lame ass non-conference schedule. Growing up, I remember going to games and seeing the Badgers against the likes of LSU, Oklahoma (with Heismann winner Steve Owens), pre-Big Ten Penn State with Lydell Mitchell, Franco Harris, and Jack Ham (which the Badgers won 29-16), Syracuse (when they were good), UCLA (ditto), Nebraska (Badgers win 21-20), and Colorado. Those games were worth going to. I feel sorry for anybody who is paying to see crap like Cal-Poly, Akron, and any of the other cupcakes this lame-ass bunch has decided to play instead of actually playing someone who matters. But I guess winning IS everything, so let's cancel V Tech! Honestly, I hope they lose to Cal-Poly and in the process Bret the Town Drunk is out looking for work.
